3 Great Places to visit in Southern Tuscany

So we went to stay in southern Tuscany and it was amazing , I will tell more about that and the place we stayed in another post. Right now I want to recommend some places to visit if you are staying south of Pisa and North of Grosetto. With suitabilty for a 4 year old!!

1. Siena

Is a wonderful place and its beautiful architecture and grandiose squares of the old town are something to see, I was particularly impressed with the Piazza Del Campo, built on top of the old Roman amphitheatre (which begins to tell you of the history and prestige of these old city states. Also had the best ice cream down a shaded side street near the University. Of course Everyone wants to go to Florence and Pisa where the sites are obvious and the history palpable, but Siena offers something different. I should say we got lost and with our limited Italian found a car park very near the Piazza and were thankful to the hospitality of local people. My 4 year old loved the Piazza and the ice cream and we then sat in a cafe (expensive) bordering the piazza and ate and drank, she always likes a a good cafe.

2. Saturnia (hot springs)

The hot springs are free and attract locals and families holidaying, don’t get caught up in the high end term up the road, which is costly (if you have the money why not) but enjoy the atmosphere and relaxation. My 4 year old did not want to leave. The town itself is fantastic, and a real relaxing spot, but do not expect to get anything to eat except at the usual times.

3. Orbetello.

We went to Orbetello, visiting the flower market in the park near the main gate on the viale marconi. This was a fascinating place, as well as the market, we had heard Orbetello was good for its beaches and on the way in there are many campsites and holiday areas. The part we hit near the park, was like a weird film set of abandoned buildings of an imperial nature, rusting park railings and a faded grandness, tall very eerie in its nature. My 4 year old was bored.
