Politics, Poetry, Psychology, Rants and Recipes
I have always been a political person, and have been involved in a big and small way with the Trade Union and Labour movements for around 24 years. I stuck with Labour when everyone seemed to leave and join the Social Democrats, I watched while they imploded with impractical policy and practice and helped in the rebuilding of a new way forward, I celebrated when Labour won the 1997 election.
I kept my Union Membership moving from BECTU when I worked in theatre and broadcast to Amicus as I worked in IT and other Managerial areas.
I truly believe that everyone has a success story to live, not at the expense of others but in co-operation with others. Success is not something achieved in isolation but as part of a family, community and society.
I can see Tony Blair and others have made mistakes in Government and the disaster of the Iraq war has clouded our view of other better actions that have improved the lot of many people in society. My partner a senior nurse and working in the NHS for 25 years is finally being paid the salary she deserves. But I believe its time we owned up to the mistakes, apologised and put Labour back on track to continue in the project to make a fairer Britain.
Its easy to forget the terrible Tory times, and if we slink back to the conservatives in the hope somehow that they can put everything right with things they learnt on the playing fields of Eton, we might be in for a rude shock.
Jon Cruddas represents that element of the Labour party that want to bring about a renewal, in the party, in our policy and in our electoral success. I will be supporting him for the Deputy leadership of the Labour Party.
