The Culture Of IT (it), The culture of “it”

Have we finally created the IT culture where you are not an I or a you but an “it”? You have probably been there when something happens or somebody does something that subtly dehumanises those around them, anyone in the vicinity stops being he or she and become “it”.

A man or woman on public transport who speaks loudly into their mobile phone about intimate and personal details, it doesn’t matter if any “it” hears this because they aren’t people who will listen they are “it”. That iPod so loud that you can hear it through the phones or the kids laying music on their mobile phones, they don’t care about anyone or anything except themselves, if you are in the vicinity you just got made an “it”….

Perhaps its a subtle spin off from the advent of specialist wars where no people die we just have collateral damage. Personally i think its about the clever isolation of all of us so we all become portals for commercialism. Divide and conquer, stop people speaking to each other face to face and the only info they get is via computer, TV and other media. Look who wants to control all this Apple and Microsoft….hey apple even brought out the iphone to match their “it” making iPod. It is just someone we can check with a focus group on whether it wants our product.

What of the mindless vandalism, the theft and destruction, as a colleague at work got his scooter damaged and his helmet broken from its lock….I mean who cares they didn’t know him and he doesn’t know them…just a bunch of “its”

Its very dreary and negative but i believe it to be true, the “it”culture is the opposite of spirituality which thrives on communion..with The Universe, God, The countryside or each other. The trouble with the “it” culture is those that “it ” you also “it” themselves.

We have all become products and producers and consumers of product, no longer people but objects to be manipulated by corporations who legally have greater rights and freedoms as individuals than real people. We really have all been itnotized.
