I beleive it goes back along way to when Brian Clough was not given the English Job. I beleive the FA mismanaged the appointment of Sven Goran Ericsson, by paying him too much and being contractually obligated if they got rid of him because HE SHOULD HAVE GONE AFTER THE LAST WORLD CUP.

Is it not time that the national teams were run by a differnt body a “Team England” so to speak, so ideas and coaching strategy, technology and new ideas in coaching psychology and sports can be shared. The FA is not the right organisation to manage the England Football team, their record too speaks for itself.

Secondly in this world cup, the strategy, team selection and team formation were not ones practised with, Hargreaves (brilliant though he was) had not had a start with england for years, but all of a sudden is in the start line up. Why oh why were Bent and Defoe not taken along, forcing us to play 4-5-1. And lets face it those midfielders don’t work… Lampard does not play well with Beckham, (look how his game improved against Portugal once Beckham had gone off) and psychologically and physically looked under par, why was he allowed to continue playing? Why were our tactics so negative? Why isn’t John Terry the captain.

Could many of these decisions be about money, sponsorship, product placement and agency fees?

And if we do practise penalties what is that practise, because taking a penalty after 2 hours of exhausting play is very different from taking a normal penalty. What is done to reproduce this when penalty practise is underway. I suggest making players wear wrist and ankle weights and a weighted vest and then asking them to practise the penalties.

Yes some players came out of the games well, but not Rooney, who like Gazza is loaded with expectation that he cannot bear alone… Rooney is too immature. But The defence was excellent and only let down by Beckham in the Sweden Game. Hargreaves, Terry, Ashley Cole, Ferdinand and Neville were superb, as in midfeild was Joe Cole, and Lennon, Gerrard had flashes but looked like Lampard, under par.

If Shearer and Venables come in with McClaren, lets hope they can stamp a new die to this team and have the courage to dump Beckham and Lampard if necessary, create a style of attacking and goalscoring play that can build on our excellent defence.
