Where you live
Where ever you go there you are, is the Bhuddist saying, but I recieved this from a Friend, and it got me thinking
“I wished that I had been told That a ‘downbeat’ neighbourhood is exactly that, I would move to a Hampstead or Dulwich or Eastbourne , rather than South Norwood or Hastings, because yes my child has just elevated the local schools SATS results by getting 100% but she is surrounded by ….. people with serious social problems, and it is harder to move upward in that environment.
Is that outlandishly snobby of me? I don’t think I am after all I have lived in run down neighbourhoods most of my adult life.”…
Hmmm…Interesting, where I live hundreds if not thousands of middle class people squeeze themselves into houses built in the 19th century for working class steelworkers, railway workers and other artisans and think its marvellous. They all move from places like S.London because it was alright to live there whilst a student but its a bit rough now. It seems ridiculous to me.
When you are 20 and full of hope and promise, no one comes along to say one day you won’t like it round here, or the opposite that this rough area will be taken over by developers and arty lovey types and your council house will be worth a fortune and you can retire to the country…how I wish.
