The Way to see the future is to start creating it Now!
The whole of your life is in your hands now, the choices you make in the next few minutes or seconds will effect everything, the way you live now and the way you live tomorrow. Your moral stand , your outlook on tolerance and acceptance, your attitude to conflict both in yourself and the world, your honesty and ability to be loving and forgiving will mean so much in the next few moments…
Why? because to stand well in those things is to make a better world.
I tend not to have heroes, I think they are often projections of the goodness and greatness in ourselves which we are to frightened to own and use. If I did have a heroe it would be the 17th century Quaker George Fox. A man who in his early twenties was able to guide people toward a new understanding of spirituality and how it effected the world they lived in.
Turbulent times he lived in like our own, I mean they chopped the kings head off…I think they may have even shocked themselves.
Its just that all those hundreds of years ago Fox asked these kind of questions, he stimulated people to think for themsleves rather than just accept what they were told, but to do it in a loving and caring way, a way without violence and with great tolernace, long before Ghandi. I am told there is In Portland Oregon, a George Fox University, so at least someone somewhere recognises his acts.
But lets not avoid those questions, its not about religion or politics, its about your ability to think for yourself, not what you read in the paper or saw on the TV news or heard the president or Prime minister say, what do you think is going on. Does your behaviour make things better, or may be you just don’t care, why not? What could have brought you to a place where you don’t give a f**k about the other people on this earth. When you turn away when you see racism or violence, when you lie or cheat or steal, or flare up against those that do this to you does it make a better world
We see it writ large, some people crashed planes in to big buildings, and what happened …a knee jerk: – civil liberties went under the hammer, tolerance went out of the window, and revenge shone red in the eyes of a great many people. What did we get, war, what for? I don’t know, has it really made things better? we’ll see…The war lord and drug lords still rule Afghanistan, the women there still live in fear and under repression, and Iraq, who benefitted, are more lives saved or lost?
Can you forgive those people, can you forgive yourself for allowing the killing to go on…for or against the war, it was just more killing, what could a million dollar missile really buy.
In George Fox’s time executing the King (Charles the First) didn’t really change a lot, the interregnum was short lived and it all went back how it was before and we got Charles the Second, but in all that time we have learnt so little, or maybe if we can just answer those questions at the beginning , make choices for the good of all, with love and truth…so not what it says in the papers, on the news, what you think happened, what do you say. I think its time to put a stop to the violence, full stop.
