breast cancer drug – herceptin
Well as usual we have the I must have this drug brigade going off with the papers supporting them, and inaccurate coverage on the drug herceptin.
This is the drug, which in trials showed 20% of those taking the drug in combination with other froms of chemotherapy suffering from heart failure!!!
Seen that in any of the reporting? IT was first demonstrated in 2002!!

see what you think. I know that in health trusts where they are being attacked by the media and the legal system into giving this drug, they are also having to call in their heart specialists to advise as well…
OK I have a particular view of all this and if i had cancer i would be looking at treatments and what they could do for me, because in todays society cancer is the big disease and death is the great fear. So I don’t begrudge anyone their treatment.
However, I am coming round to the view that our health system is not run very well, there is too many management layers, and not enough front line staff, the lines of responsibility and accountability seem to end in the offices of the editors of newspapers and TV News. Millions has been pumped into the NHS since 1997 but we have seen little except more management layers and perhaps a better deal for nurses to encourage them not to leave.
Our health is governed by the lives we live and the things we ingest, the government in the UK wants to concentrate on prevention, as it must and has started with a campaign about salt. How about the toxins in your shampoo or the plastic you wrap your food in…

I would like to add i send my love and care to all those with cancer, I think particularly of Roy Castle who died, and his campaign against secondary smoke the results of which look like some sort of ban on smoking in public places in the UK and already in other countries
