Achilles was the son of the mortal Peleus, king of the Myrmidons in Phthia (southeast Thessaly), and the sea nymph Thetis. Zeus and Poseidon were rivals for the hand of Thetis. That is until Prometheus the fire bringer revealed that if one of these gods wed Thetis, she would bear a son greater than his father. For this reason, the two gods withdrew their pursuit. When Achilles was born, Thetis had tried to make Achilles immortal by dipping him in the river Styx, but forgot to wet the heel she held him by, leaving him vulnerable.
What does this have do with anything…well my achilles tendon began to hurt a couple of weeks back and I have become a world s expert in the Achilles tendon!!

I am not sure whether it was from lack of stretching at the gym or lack of the right warm-up, whether it was from poor shoes or some shoes i had that rubbed, but I have it the dreaded middle aged mans discomfort….tendinitis in the Achilles tendon.
So I have been resting it with a little ‘relative exercise’, stretching, doing a little light yoga, rubbing on Comfrey Oil and taken some homoeopathic Arnica 30x. I have had some re centring acupuncture and will go for some physio and osteopathy.
It is slowly improving, but I warn you if you get that niggly little ache, burning sensation in your Achilles or similar..DO NOT IGNORE IT.
Achilles tendinitis is inflammation of the Achilles tendon. The Achilles tendon does not have good blood supply, so this injury can be slow to heal.
as well as those that I have had…treatment is possible with cold therapy or ice, wearing heel pads to reduce the strain on the tendon, and a exercise routine geared towards strengthening the tendon. Seeing a sports injury therapist as soon as possible is important, because this injury can lead to an Achilles tendon rupture with continued overuse. Sports injury therapists can prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, use ultrasound therapy, prescribe a rehabilitation program, and possibly apply a plaster cast.
I would like to recommend this site for insoles and heel pads, I have just used it

if you have similar problems try some of their heel cups and tell me what you think.
