Eczema, Exzema, EcXzema X-zema

I have suffered with eczema for 43 years, for some 30 of those I was prescribed steroid creams to control it and also suffered from asthma, around the age of 30, when going back to the doctor for a repeat prescription for cortisone cream, he told me you do know you musnÕt take these for more than 7 days or they can damage the skin….oops 30 years too late.

“The Skin Cure Diet: Heal Eczema from Inside Out” (Kathleen Waterford)

It was then I began to look at it from a different perspective, this was in part due to the first homeopath went to see, who as well as helping me get of the steroid creams and inhalers, also helped reduce the effect the eczema had on me.

he encouraged me to see my skin as another organ of elimination, like the liver or kidneys and really it was just doing its job.  And also to work against and review in my mind the encouragement, by the biomedical combine and advertising and the celeb/star based media , for everyone to see themselves as imperfect and drive towards a visual and physical perfection.

Its hard to do especially as the eczema most often appears on my hands, the first point of physical contact in many meetings,.  However I was also engaging with a therapeutic training at the time and this also helped as I began to see how the rawness and irritation of my skin was representative of an inner state of irritation, emotional upheaval and rawness.

I realised that not having the wherewithal to cope with and express or articulate certain situations, they were expressed via physical manifestations mainly via my skin.

So after many years of not having exczema, just a bit of dry skin now and then its back, my inner turmoil and rawness at the loss of my marriage and family and starting a  new job, new house, new life cannot be hidden, it hurts, its scary, its raw, I am irritated by what I am being forced to go through.  But what interests me  even more is that this time the skin problems have taken the form a kind of exfoliation…like shedding the skin.  As I write this i realise as i change and grow I must take on and form a new skin along with my new life, leaving  some old aspects and thus my skin (like a snake behind.

So how does this help any of you who suffer from eczema, perhaps it does and perhaps it doesnÕt, but it is worth thinking of why you have any dis-ease or illness.  Our society is prone to want these things to go away, to be covered, treated pushed away or back in, instead of letting them out, we do not like uncontrolled or channelled expression…in whatever form it takes.

Read as much as you can there are a great many self help books for eczema sufferers find the way that is right for you as we are all different and our eczema is the result of different things.

At least its sunny at the moment because the sun has always been the best cure, and as i let the sun bathe me on the outside I try to connect with my own inner healing glow on the inside

go well.
