A Tale of 3 trees, an alternative Christmas story
Someone sent me this story and with a slight retelling I offer it to you…
Three young trees were dreaming of what they would
become when they were fully grown. The first wanted to
be made into a ship that would sail the seas and visit
the many splendours of the world. The second wanted to
be made into a throne that would support the king and
be there in the centre of the political debate of the
day. The third tree dreamt of becoming a big hotel in
which important and famous people would stay.
Time passed and the first tree became a ship, leading
an exciting life on the waves. The second became a
fine throne and found itself at the centre of power.
But the third was disappointed to be made into a sort of hut or shed.
Then he had animals placed inside him and muck and smells and he
bemoaned his fate “Nothing ever happens to me and
no-one ever visits except for this menagerie, I am nothing more than a large old wooden shed”
But one night a pregnant woman and her partner lay down in some of the straw in the old shed
and in the centre of the shed she gave birth to a
baby, all these things happened in the shed and went on to change the world.
So for those of you who fear you may have turned out
to be just a plain wooden shed, remember that what goes on inside you can, given the right circumstances, give birth to something that will change your world
and that Love, the greatest gift of all, can be born in the muck of animals, in the shelter of trees or in the heart of a shed.
so what do you think…why not leave a comment
