Internet Dating
Does it work, is it kosher, can we get to know each other through this medium, it seems very 2-dimensional yet is highly popular.
There are hundreds of sites out there, and a fair few so called ‘adult’ dating sites, its all quite tittilating if a bit tawdry.
In some ways it is sad that we live in a society that lacks the personal communities that allow you to meet people and also that there are so many divorced seperated people; and people who seem so busy with their lives that they don’t have the time for successful realtionships.
However who am I to act so superior, it is also amazing that in this new world of invented communication and distant fragmented communities we can invent ways to talk and share and provide the seed for new realtioships for people who would otherwise have never met.
In the past i might have had a quiet chcukle over it but a year or two back I made contact with some one I used to know who had then recently left her husband, we made a dinner date and got to meet her new partner, the subject came up of how they had met, “oh an internet dating service” they said…not a chuckle in the house…they have similar interests and a similar outlook and so far seem to be getting on fine, what better ad could you get, ever tried it, have an opinion, then please tell me.
(This article was originally written in 2003 and since then the internet dating phenomena has really taken off, become a multi billion pound business and brought so many people together, no doubt there is not one of us that does not know someone who has tried it and had some success)
